This is Aldo, the owner of Bill’s on 54th and Madison and one of the most fascinating men I’ve met in the city. He’s had the bar for more than 45 years and apparently served Al Capone steak on more than one occasion. The bar also used to be a favorite with Marilyn Monroe. However,  the story that fascinated me was his run-in with Frank Sinatra. This was back in the day before Sinatra was famous and he was performing for small crowds to make ends meet. Anyhow, apparently he made a rude comment about Aldo’s date and they decided to ‘take it outside’. Sinatra, being three years older gave him a black eye then shook his hand and said he was a good man for defending his women. Love it. I think I’ll go and call my grandpa.
